About
Founded in 1955 by Umeji Utsubo in Ueno and now located in Kawaguchi, Toeisha (Toei Cyclery) is one of Japan's most revered historic custom framebuilders. Master craftsmen at Toei specialize in traditional steel randonneur and touring bicycles, as well as classic road bikes, known worldwide for exquisite lug work, integrated rack fabrication, and classic French-inspired aesthetics.
Founder Story
Umeji Utsubo, manager of the Maruto Bike Factory and a passionate researcher of European sports bicycles, founded Toeisha in Ueno, Tokyo in 1955. Specialized from the start in European-style touring and randonneur machines, Toei set the gold standard for Japanese steel frame craftsmanship over more than six decades.
